King Edward VI Handsworth Wood Girls Academy is undergoing a major three-phrase reconstruction to provide brand new teaching facilities to its pupils.
The original 1960s building was not sufficient for the school to deliver the curriculum, due to inefficient spatial configurations and poor movement between blocks. Aside from the more recent sixth form centre, all existing teaching accommodation was demolished to make way for the main L-shaped 3-storey teaching block, including classrooms, dining and main halls and a drama studio.
During the first phase of the project, we have carried out decoration works across the brand new classrooms and communal spaces using Johnstones Paints, as well as applied epoxy resin to plant rooms. The second phase is underway and expected to be complete by Spring 2025.

This prestigious new building is a result of the single biggest donation in the University's history, a total of £185 million from philanthropist and businessman Stephen A. Schwarzman.
Oxford Vice-Chancellor Professor Irene Tracey shared her thoughts: "The Schwarzman Centre has enormous potential both to benefit teaching and research in the humanities, and to be a place which makes a genuine contribution to the local community in Oxford as well as the national and global cultural sector."
Led by Laing O'Rourke, the new building will bring nine faculties and institutes and seven libraries and collections into one home. The project also includes a 500-seat concert hall designed with world-leading acoustic capability, a 250-seat theatre and a film screening area. The project is schduled to complete in Autumn 2025, welcoming students in the new academic year.
